D.L. Hughley

Born: March 6, 1963

Comedian D.L. Hughley, now starring on NYC's KISS-FM's morning show, speaks candidly about marijuana on the air and in High Times magazine (September 2010): "I never perform with it. But if I want to write, I am never clearer than when I'm just a little higher. It unlocks the key; it really clears things up for me."

Saying he once OD'd on a brownie and that it alters his time perception onstage, Hughley jokes, "If a day has a 'y' in it, I use it." He says more seriously, "I am so tired of the way it's demonized."

Speaking of AB390, California's landmark 2009 proposal to legalize marijuana for its tax revenue, Hughley said on CNN , "I'm so in favor of this. I am so tired of pretending like I have glaucoma....people say, 'Are you high?' Yes."

One of four comedians featured in the Spike Lee film The Original Kings of Comedy (2000), Hughley is remembered for his TV series "the Hughleys" and was recently seen hosting his own talk show on CNN ÒD.L. Hughley Breaks the News.Ó Now a contributor to CNN and the Jay Leno show, Hughley's fourth HBO special ÒUnapologeticÓ is currently available on DVD.
